Mars in Aries through the houses   Leave a comment

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus – or so the story goes but is it true.  We have lived in a culture where women have been shamed into denying their Mars and have been required to project that energy onto their partner. For men the same can be said of Venus.

Only in recent years have women been allowed to own their Mars and many are still uncomfortable doing so.  This is especially true of those with more dynamic Mars aspects such as Mars in Aries both professionally and in the bedroom this was seen as male energy only. Whether you are male or female this is what your Mars energy says about you.

In ancient Roman Myth, Mars was the god of War and also an agricultural guardian, a combination characteristic of early Rome. He was second in importance only to Jupiter and Neptune and he was the most prominent of the military gods in the religion of the Roman army. Most of his festivals were held in March, the month named after him, and in October, which began and ended the season for military campaigning and farming.  Mars was a part of the Archaic Triad along with Jupiter and Quirinus, the latter of whom as a guardian of the Roman people had no Greek equivalent. Mars represented military power as a way to secure peace, and was a father (pater) of the Roman people. In the founding myths of Rome, Mars was the father of Romulus and Rebus with Rhea Silvia. Mars in Taurus through the houses   Leave a comment

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus but with Mars in Taurus the two meet half way.  Traditional we have been conditioned to accept Mars energy as Male and Venus energy as female but we have always been both.  Here females may express the Venus side of Mars in Taurus, desire for nice surroundings and enjoyment of luxury and pampering much easier than the muscular Taurean bull they also possess.  With men they may be more comfortable with their Taurean bull side than the Venus connection to all things sensuous and sensual. Both sexes contain equal amounts of both these energies.

The Great Golden Bull of heaven presided over the spring Equinox in ancient times and thus was the symbol along with Inanna (Venus) of fertility and renewal of the earth.  The auroch a wild bull was worshipped in ancient times for its strength and wild spirit, the animal could not be tamed or conquered and its horns were sacred and may have been used to symbolise virility, this extinct animal may be the foundation of some of the unicorn myths and is most probably the unicorn mentioned in the bible.  The unicorn is renowned for its healing properties, strength, wildness and attraction to virgins (Virgo the another fertile earth sign).  Whether you see yourself as the virile, wild and untamable auroch or the more gentle Unicorn you have a magic all of your own. Mars in Gemini through the houses   Leave a comment

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus but Gemini refuses to acknowledge gender.  Mars in Gemini then poses a quandary for both sexes, for it refuses to be pigeon-holed by society.  Both males and females with this aspect refuse to play sexual-stereotype games.

With Mars in Gemini you will identify with the story of Androgyne.

The original human nature was not like the present, but different. The sexes were not two, as they are now, but originally three in number; there was man, woman, and a union of the two […] Terrible was their might and strength, and the thoughts of their hearts were great, and they dared to scale the heavens, and they made an attack on the Gods.

The Gods took council and Zeus discovered a way to humble their pride and improve their manners. They would continue to exist, but he cut them in two like a sorb-apple which is halved for pickling.
After the division, the two parts of man (the Androgyne), each desiring his other half, came together and throwing their arms around one another, entwined in mutual embraces, longing to grow into one; they were on the point of dying from hunger and self-neglect because they did not like to do anything apart; and when one of the halves died and the other survived, the survivor sought another mate, man or woman, as we call them–being the sections of entire men or women–and clung to that.
They were being destroyed when Zeus, in pity of them, invented a new plan. He turned the parts of generation round to the front, for this had not always been their position, and they sowed the seed no longer as hitherto like grasshoppers, in the ground, but in one another; and after the transposition the male generated in the female in order that by mutual embraces of man and woman they might breed and the race might continue; or if man came to man they might be satisfied, and rest, and go their ways to the business of life: so ancient is the desire of one another which is implanted within us, reuniting our original nature, making one of two, and healing the state of man.

Mars in Cancer through the houses   Leave a comment

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus but what happens when Mars becomes the mother.  Mars in Cancer is traditionally in fall if we view Mars as being male then it cannot be the mother, but what if that view is wrong what if we are all from Mars and Venus equally – then Mars is just another representation of the protective, creative and fertile energy we all have.

Yuchi a native American tribe held to the belief in northern cosmogony — an upper world, containing the Elders of men and animals, and a waste of waters below. Animal after animal attempts to bring up earth from the deep, until, in this legend, the crayfish (Cancer) succeeds in lifting to the surface the embryonic ball whence Earth is to grow.

The myth of the Yuchi denotes Cancer’s prominence as the womb or nurturer.  Cancer also contains another symbol that of Yin and Yang, we all possess each of these two energies; dark and light, male and female, and these energies ebb and flow within us in a constantly changing direction as we struggle to balance the energies of the white wolf with the black wolf.  Cancer may also have been connected in its role as womb to Ningal, Wife of Nanna (Sumerian moon God), Ningal gave birth to the twins the Sun god Utu and Inanna (Venus).  In Sumerian mythology Nanna (the moon) symbol of motherhood is male. Mars in Leo through the houses   1 comment

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus, but they both dance around the one sun.  With in Leo we are reminded that we are all born under the same sun, male and female.  This energy does not separate and divide the sexes but unites them in all that it means to be human.

The Tibetan mythical Snow Lion resides in the East and represents unconditional cheerfulness, a mind free of doubt, clear and precise. It has a beauty and dignity resulting from a body and mind that are synchronized. The Snow Lion has a youthful, vibrant energy of goodness and a natural sense of delight. Sometimes the throne of a Buddha is depicted with eight Snow Lions on it, in this case, they represent the 8 main Bodhisattva-disciples of the historical Buddha. Associations: main quality is fearlessness, dominance over mountains, and the earth element. The Snow Lion does not fly but their feet never touch the ground; their existence is a playful ‘continuum’ (Tibetan: rgyud) of leaping from mountain peak to mountain peak. The energetic potency (wisdom) of the Snow Lion is expressed in the attribute of the gakyil (‘bliss+whirling’ or ‘wheel of joy’) that the Snow Lion keeps in eternal play.  This is a good summation of those with Mars in Leo, they are playful, cheery, free of doubt and energise those around them with their joy and wisdom. Mars in Virgo through the houses   2 comments

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus but where does cereal come from?  Virgo goddess of the corn and the grandmother of Venus may raise a wry smile, wisdom of Virgo says her daily bread belongs to all.

Virgo, the heavenly furrow was the cosmological representation of Ninlil the Sumerian cereal Goddess, wife of Enlil who fertilised her furrows in pretty graphic detail.

In the sleeping quarters, in the flowered bed fragrant like a cedar forest, Enlil made love to his wife and took great pleasure in it. He sat her on his dais appropriate to the status of Enlil, and made the people pray to her. The lord whose statements are powerful also determined a fate for the Lady (Aruru), the woman of his favour; he gave her the name Nintur, the ‘Lady who gives birth’, the ‘Lady who spreads her knees’. (…) Proud woman, surpassing the mountains! You who always fulfil your desires—from now on, Sud, Enlil is the king and Ninlil is the queen. The goddess without name has a famous name now, Read the rest of this entry »

Mars in Libra through the houses   Leave a comment

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus but sometimes Mars is Venus and Venus is Mars.  Mars in Libra male or female likes to don Venus’s robes and express that Martian energy in a more reasonable and less reactive fashion.  Not that Venus is particularly renown for her reasonable responses perhaps it is the robe that soothes the savage Martian.

The Scales represent Mother Ceres in her role of protector and administrator of justice as she weighs life and right in her scales, as such although Libra is an air sign it still contains an earthy sensual quality of its patrons Ceres and Venus.  Mars in Libra is capable of being very sensual and passionate in expression.  Libra in Babylonian times was part of the constellation of Scorpio and those scales weighing life and right still contain Plutonian themes, Mars in Libra is very aware of the intensities of desire that exist within their own soul which is why they relate so well to others.  Libra begins at the equinox and at this point it corresponds with Persephone’s return to her husband Pluto symbolic of when the earth itself begins to reabsorb the vegetation and nutrients back within the soil to be broken down and recycled in time for spring. ‘La petite death’ the french description of orgasm, echoes the theme of death and rebirth through the sexual act something Mars in Libra is very well aware of. Mars in Scorpio through the houses   2 comments

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus yet the soul knows no gender.  Mars in Scorpio individuals are driven to connect on a soul level with others this connection knows no gender.

In ancient times the signs of Taurus and Scorpio represented the spring and autumn equinox.

The goddess Ereshkigal ruling the underworld and the non-productive part of the natural cycle when the earth reabsorbs the vegetation and recycles the nutrients.  Ereshkigal’s husband Gulganna the heavenly bull representing the fertile aspect of the cycle. Ereshkigal is often described as Innana’s (Venus) big sister and the Myth of Inanna and Dumuzi involves replenishing the earth through giving up the seven auras or energies of life itself.  Innana (Venus) herself gives up these auras and returns them to fertilise the soil before Dumuzi takes her place.  Mars in Scorpio is well aware of the need to nurture and replenish the natural energies within relationship and of the balance of natural cycle. Mars here understands the importance of themes of death and regeneration as a means of continuing the fertility of the natural cycle and allowing growth to continue. ‘La petite mort’ (little death) is a French expression often used to refer to orgasm. It literally meansthe small death. The meaning that this infers is that essentially a part of the self dies or is released in the experience of orgasm. And indeed many people find this to be true. Mars in Sagittarius through the houses   Leave a comment

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus but Sagittarius knows in some cultures women are from Mars and men are from Venus.  Mars in Sagittarius has little time for conforming to social stereotypes, they are much more interested in having fun and exploring their environment whatever their sex.

Sagittarius corresponds with the God Pabilsag who has strong connections to the lost city of Larak as its patron deity.  Pabilsag was called the warrior of Enlil and had the body of a Scorpion and the upper portion of a man.  The meaning of his name like everything else about Pabilsag is uncertain. Much of his mythology is unknown and yet to be discovered something most Mars in Sagittarius will find interesting for they love to explore and investigate. Read the rest of this entry »

Capricorn is known as the mountain goat, the sea goat and the horn of plenty.  He was connected to the ancient God Enki / Ea as symbolising rulership in his name. Enki’s consort was Ninhursag lady mountain and so as her consort he is also the mountain Goat.  Enki spilt his seed on lady mountain to fertilise the land, the rivers of the Euphrates and Tigris especially represent his semen or waters of life that fertilised the land. Mars in Aquarius through the houses   Leave a comment

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus but elves are from Aquarius.  Mars in Aquarius may identify more closely with pixies, elves, faeries and wizards than they do with any gender stereotype.  These individuals simply refuse to pick a gender when there are plenty of other interesting things they can choose to be.

Aquarius represented the waters of the great one to the Babylonians, Enki / Ea poured his water of life or semen upon his wife Ninhursag (lady mountain) to fertilise the land in particular the rivers of the Euphrates, Tigris and the fertile crescent is associated with the fertile waters of Enki.  Mars is in a sign that represents virility of the air through the water cycle, Enki symbolises the magic of the raindrop, the snow flake that falls from the air to merge with the soil.  Aquarius in Ancient times was associated with the shortest day in the northern hemisphere, this time has always been associated with celebration and bringing fertility back to the land through rituals.  Even today we bring greenery into our house at this time of year and one special plant in particular the mistletoe under which we kiss.  The mistletoe was an ancient sacred plant of the druids, that because of its parasitic nature appeared to fall from the heavens and grew without roots on ancient apple trees, the fruit of love and symbol of erotic desire.  If you have Mars in Aquarius you are connected to very ancient and sacred powers of fertility and virility which the ancient Mars was connected to as a guardian of agriculture and God of War.  Mars in Aquarius is also Mars Quirinus, the protector of the “citizens” or “civilians”, whose oaths were required to make a treaty. As a guarantor of treaties, Mars Quirinus is a god of peace.  Mars in Aquarius is also Mars Toutatis protector of his tribe. Mars in Pisces through the houses   Leave a comment

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus but Pisces comes from the depth of emotions.  Emotions are neither male or female they are something we are have and all supposed to express equally, Mars in Pisces knows this Martian energy was meant to be expressed by all.

The eastern fish of Pisces is connected to Inanna (Venus), wife of Mars.  The sign of the fishes may also be connected to Siduri, the barmaid (an incarnation of Venus) who lives at the lip of the sea, this was her advice to Gilgamesh:

Gilgamesh, whither are you wandering? Life, which you look for, you will never find. For when the gods created man, they let death be his share, and life withheld in their own hands. Gilgamesh, fill your belly. Day and night make merry. Let days be full of joy, dance and make music day and night. And wear fresh clothes. And wash your head and bathe. Look at the child that is holding your hand, and let your wife delight in your embrace. These things alone are the concern of men.
