Sedna 90377   Leave a comment

Sedna represents fear: the fear of to little food, of abandoning one’s child, of forcefully violently abandoning someone you love through necessity, of being abandoned, of global warming, GM crops, capitalism run amok, totalitarianism, child abuse, war, terrorism, – Sedna represents our fears as a society and an individual but it also represents our responses to those fears.

The mythology of Sedna encompasses the worst fears of a society living on the edge of existence where hunger and starvation were realities faced often, living with real fear that can happen at any point necessitated Sedna in her role as representing the worst that could happen being soothed and placated.  If there is no Sedna to placate then nothing is possible for only in placation of Sedna are we capable of achieving anything.  She is the monster lying in wait under the bed that stops us getting up during the night and the stranger that passes to close to us at night in the dark.  She is the scapegoat of society, single parents, disabled, illegal immigrants, Islamic fundamentalists, whatever you fear is destroying society, Democrats, republicans, Fundamentalist Christians, we all have our own Sedna and whether we placate her through appeasement or vilification, violence and war  understanding her is important.  Sedna represents our fears thus she represents ourselves as well our ideas of what we fear, these give Sedna life, we colour her in the image of our nightmares.  We also project our nightmarish creation on to others and demonize them.

Sedna at heart represents our own fears and what we do with those fears, how we respond to them and face them or how we project them onto a convenient scapegoat, Sedna in aspect to the planets in the chart make us face our inner demons and address the issues we have with our own fears.

Asteroid Orcus 90482   Leave a comment

Orcus in a plutonian dwarf planet.  The Romans sometimes conflated Orcus with other gods such as Pluto, Hades, and Dis Pater, god of the land of the dead. The name “Orcus” seems to have been given to his evil and punishing side, as the god who tormented evildoers in the afterlife. Like the name Hades (or the Norse Hel, for that matter), “Orcus” could also mean the land of the dead.  From Orcus’ association with death and the underworld, his name came to be used for demons and other underworld monsters, particularly in Italian where orco refers to a kind of monster found in fairy-tales that feeds on human flesh. The French word ogre and the Italian orco are exactly the same sort of creature.  Tolkien wrote, “Orc I derived from Anglo-Saxon, a word meaning demon, usually supposed to be derived from the Latin Orcus—Hell. But I doubt this, though the matter is too involved to set out here.”

We can see that asteroid Orcus represents our own demons as well as society’s.  At present (2014) it is in Virgo where the demons of Monsanto, GM crops and tainted food haunt us regularly in the media. In the 60’s and 70’s it was in Cancer at a period where there were many changes to the traditional family, divorce and single parents which before had been unacceptable was beginning to become more frequent and there were great fears about the family and family values being destroyed in the process. Campaigns against television By Mary Whitehouse in the UK known for her strong opposition to social liberalism and the mainstream British media, both of which she accused of encouraging a more permissive society.  Whitehouse’s campaigns continue to divide opinion. Her critics have accused her of being a highly censorious figure, and her traditional moral convictions brought her into direct conflict with supporters of the sexual revolution, feminists and gay rights campaigners. Others see her more positively and believe she was attempting to halt a decline in what they perceived as Britain’s moral standards. According to Ben Thompson, the editor of an anthology of Whitehouse-related letters, in 2012: “From Mumsnet to … feminist anti-pornography campaigns [and] the executive naming and shaming strategies of UK Uncut, her ideological and tactical influence has been discernible in all sorts of unexpected places in recent years.”

In the 80′ and 90’s Orcus was in Leo at the time of the Thatcher generation, her philosophy that greed is good and there is no such thing as society, lead to a society that knows the price of everything and the value of nothing, Dodgy Bankers above the law and the belief that a person’s worth is valued on what they own.

Orcus in the natal chart is similar to Pluto, the House it is in will reflect how these issues have affected the individual and aspects to the planets will do the same. Any planets in aspect to Orcus will generally have the same effect as being in aspect to Pluto in the issues involved and as such the interpretations for Pluto may be used to gain more understanding of this asteroid in the chart.

Frankkameny 40463   2 comments

Frank Kameny was an astronomer, Veteran of WWII and GLBT rights activist.  His story has obvious parallels to that of Alan Turing the Genius of Bletchley Park in that both academics were fired in the 50’s after being arrested for homosexuality.  This was common at the time due to fears of their sexuality making them vulnerable to spies in the cold war era.  Frank Kameny and Jack Nichols, fellow co-founder of the Washington, D.C., branch of the Mattachine Society, launched some of the earliest public protests by gays and lesbians with a picket line at the White House on April 17, 1965. In coalition with New York’s Mattachine Society and the Daughters of Bilitis, the picketing expanded to target the United Nations, the Pentagon, the United States Civil Service Commission, and to Philadelphia’s Independence Hall for what became known as the Annual Reminder for gay rights.

In 1963, Kameny and Mattachine launched a campaign to overturn D.C. sodomy laws; he personally drafted a bill that finally passed in 1993. He also worked to remove the classification of homosexuality as a mental disorder from the American Psychiatric Association‘s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. He described the day – December 15, 1973, when the American Psychological Association removed homosexuality from its manual of mental disorders – as the day “we were cured en masse by the psychiatrists.”

Behind all the historic milestones, there is a common story of the 50’s – of War Heroes unfairly disgraced and dishonoured because of their sexuality.  Of cold war neurosis that turned to attack minority groups and did not acknowledge the rights of others. As many veterans have stated many gay men gave their lives to save others in WWII, they were heroes regardless of their sexuality and their treatment was appalling.  Asteroid Frankkameny is about respecting each human as valued and contributing member of society it is about fighting against injustice that stops great men from contributing to society.  Alan Turing one of the greatest minds committed suicide after being chemically castrated, it took 60yrs for an apology and pardon to come from the British government for “the appalling way he was treated.”

This asteroid making a strong connection to personal planets in the charts is asking you to remember this history of great heros who were abused and persecuted sometimes to death because of their sexuality.  Of the loss to mankind that ensued by doing so, of the great potential many of these individuals could not develop because of bias and injustice.

Undina 92 the vengeful mermaid   2 comments

Undina is named after Undine the tittle of a short novella and the basis of the little mermaid story. Undine is swapped for a human child as a baby.  This changeling myth was very common part of folklore, and instances of children being killed because they were thought to be changelings was not uncommon.  A man also killed his wife due to the belief he had married a changeling. She has to marry a human to get a soul, she makes an excellent wife but still retains the powers she has as a water nymph.  However her husband is persuaded by his old love to reject Undine and she returns to her water underworld but warns her husband that he must remain true to her or she will be forced to kill him. However he marries his old love and Undine kills him.

Undine gaining a soul in the novel is equated with becoming submissive, considerate and full of affection.  Undine loses her carefree and wild attributes of the water nymph and becomes submissive to her husband’s will. It is only when she is rejected that her independent strength and spirit return and she is therefore not believed by her husband when she claims she will be honour bound to kill him if he is untrue to her.

Undina in the natal chart represents where we lose our sense of identity within relationships and where we are consumed by revenge when all goes wrong.

Interamnia 704 Dark horse of the asteroids.   Leave a comment

Interamnia is the fifth largest asteroid after; Ceres, Vesta, Pallas and Hygiea. Named by Vincenzo Cerulli after the Roman name of Teramo where he worked in his private observatory.  Private is a big feature of this asteroid as it has been little studied and little known. At the time of Rome Teramo had two temples Mars and Apollo, this is fitting for this asteroid because it is a representation of our creative baby that vision or project that is important to us that is very private and personal representation of our vision of the future.

We all have a baby whether it is a novel, a work of art, an invention or idea and that creation is something we will devote a lot of energy into throughout life and it is the area where we least like outside interference or changes.

Asterix 29401 & Obelix 29402   Leave a comment

Asterix and Obelix are very popular comic strip characters. With the aid of a magic potion Astrix defends his Gaulish village from the Roman invasion.  Obelix fell into the potion as a baby and doesn’t need to take it as he has permanent strength but very little tactical wits however his heart is true and he always acts out of love.  Asterix is the brain of the duo but has very little strength without the magic potion.  The humour in these comics is based on European stereotypes and is popular all over Europe because of this.

Asterix represents cunning and wits, whilst Obelisk represents brute sense but both come with a hearty sense of humour!

Cheshirecat 6042, Madhatter 6735 and Marchare 6736   Leave a comment

All three of these characters are from Lewis Caroll’s ‘Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland’.  The Cheshire Cat baffles and confuses Alice with philosophical questions, the March hare and the Mad hatter are both stuck in an eternal tea party in the belief that the hatter has murdered time and it is permenantly 6 O’Clock.

Ever felt stuck in a perpetual loop replaying the same patterns over and over again with the same people,  or had that inner voice of inspiration speak to you and then suddenly vanish without a final answer.

The March hare represents that part of us that follows the same old patterns yet expects a different result and an inability to see where we need to change our behaviours.  The hatter represents our inability to see that some events and situations have no answer, that we constantly recreate certain situations looking for answers that are not possible.

Melancholia 5708   5 comments

Melancholia is translated as black bile, it is the description of long term sadness or depression and it was thought the body produced different humours or bile that caused certain illnesses. Winston Churchill famously called it the black dog.  Melancolic depression can be genetic, symptomatic of Bipolar disorder or caused by old age.

Melancholic depression is when the person feels emotionally dead and is unable to find the energy to do the simplest of tasks.

Many great men and woman battle with depression throughout their lives, perhaps one reason for the genius and energy they all have is it is their ammunition against living death while they have a purpose and an aim it easier to ride into battle each day.

I don’t like standing near the edge of a platform when an express train is passing through. I like to stand right back and if possible get a pillar between me and the train. I don’t like to stand by the side of a ship and look down into the water. A second’s action would end everything. A few drops of desperation.” – Winston Churchill

The more aspects Melancolia makes to the natal planets the more likely it is that depression may play a factor in the person’s life.

Melancholia in aspect to the sun, with the square, conjunction and the opposition the person may fight a continuous battle with depression throughout life. With the sextile and trine the person may have the tendency towards depressive moods and may be very sensitive to SAD seasonal affective disorder.  Robin Williams had Melancholia in exact opposition to the sun. Peter Cook had Melancolia quintile the Sun.  Winston Churchill had Melancholia trine Sun.

Melancholia in aspect to the moon, with the square, conjunction and opposition the person is likely to have great emotional highs and lows and may have bipolar disorder to some extent. With the sextile and trine the person may be very sensitive emotionally and easily upset or brought low by events.  Winston Churchill had Melancholia bi-quintile moon.

Melancholia in aspect to Mercury, with the opposition, conjunction and the square the person struggles or battles the affects of depression on their ability to think rationally, negatives thoughts are the voice of depression and they can be hard to drown out.  With the sextile and trine the person also has to be wary of negative thoughts creeping up on them, and they may tend to have a pessimistic outlook on life.  Peter Cook had Melancolia sextile Mercury.

Melancholia in aspect to Venus, with the opposition, conjunction and square the person is likely to feel a deep sense of loss and despondency at times in their lives, they may have no idea where these emotions stem from or why they are feeling them.  With the sextile and trine this is often felt to a lesser extent.  Victor Hugo (Les Miserable author) had Melancholia opposite Venus.

Melancholia in aspect to Mars, with the opposition, conjunction and square the person is likely to struggle daily to find the energy to lead a fulfilling life.  With the sextile and trine this is often felt to a lesser extent. Peter Cook had Melancholia semi-square Mars.

Melancholia in aspect to Jupiter, with the opposition, conjunction and square the person is likely to struggle daily to find the enthusiasm for life and they may work very hard to keep the slightest sense of positivity in their lives.  With the sextile and trine this is often felt to a lesser extent. Victor Hugo had Melancholia conjunct Jupiter

Melancholia in aspect to Saturn, with the opposition, conjunction and square the person’s sense of reality is completely coloured by their mood and they may battle to see beyond their depression.  With the sextile and trine this is often felt to a lesser extent. Robin Williams had Melancholia Trine Saturn, Peter cook had Melancholia sextile Saturn and Victor Hugo had Melancholia conjunct Saturn.

Melancholia in aspect to Pluto, with the opposition, conjunction and square the person often struggles with the depths of extreme depression. Victor Hugo had Melancholia opposite Pluto. Winston Churchill had Melancholia semi square Pluto.
