Ascendant in Capricorn   Leave a comment

Capricorn was connected to the ancient God Enki / Ea as symbolising ruler-ship in his name.

In Greek mythology, the constellation is sometimes identified as Amalthea, the goat that suckled the infant Zeus after his mother Rhea saved him from being devoured by his father Cronos. The goat’s broken horn was transformed into the cornucopia or horn of plenty. Capricornus is also sometimes identified as Pan, the god with a goat’s head, who saved himself from the monster Typhon by giving himself a fish’s tail and diving into a river. “Euhemerus [C4th B.C. mythographer] says that a certain Aex was the wife of Pan. When she was embraced by Jove [Zeus] she bore a son whom she called son of Pan. So the child was called Aegipan, and Jove, Aegiochus (Wielder of the Aegis). Since he was very fond of him, he placed in memory the form of a goat among the stars.”

Pan the god of the wild, shepherds and flocks, nature of mountain wilds, hunting and rustic music, and companion of the nymphs.  Is all about connecting with natural world.

Those with their ascendant in Capricorn may appear capable, practical, earthy, sensual, hard-working, steady, sensible or predictable.  They may feel others opinions of them are irrelevant.

The ascendant is expressed when we are focused completely on something beyond ourselves.  For example children completely engrossed in playing or watching television lose all thought of themselves as an individual and resort to their natural state of just being. It is only when they become aware of the fact that they are being observed does the sun and other aspects of the chart kick in to protect the vulnerability of the ascendant.  The ascendant is vulnerable because it represents who we are before social conditioning and peer pressure kicked in it was our first expression as babies content in just being. Those with their ascendant in Capricorn may find it easier to just be when they are in natural surroundings, listening to music, hill walking or mountain climbing.

Descendant in Cancer,  the descendant represents our peers and how we act in their presence.  Descendent in Cancer will be sensitive, caring, empathic and extremely sensitive to the views of their peers especially when teenagers.

The longer we know friends, the more we will relax enough to show our ascendant side of our personality.  This is also true of work and social situations where we will show our MC and look to impress others until we feel secure enough to relax.
